Meet Pascal Seguin, a 21-year-old from Calgary, Alberta currently is Section Scouter for 9th Fort McMurray’s A and C Packs. Pascal has served in a variety of volunteer roles since he began as a Troop Scouter in 2015. During that time, he has also graduated High School with Academic Honours 3 years running, received over $8,000 in scholarships for his studies of Computer Science at Mount Royal University. At 20 years old he moved out of his parents’ home to do a 16 Month Co-op as an IT student at Nexen Energy’s Long Lake Project. Becoming the youngest Co-op student ever hired at Long Lake.
We chatted to Pascal about how scouting helped and helps him to achieve his goals now and in the past. “Being a scout is one of the most influential things in my life. I joined scouts as 5 year old beaver and since then have learned so many life skills that have enabled me to succeed in the world. I think the biggest thing was the leadership and organizational skills I gained along the way. Planning your budget for school and calendar to make sure you succeed is a lot easier when you have experience planning everything from Saturday troop activities in the Rocky Mountains to Jamborees in Denmark.”
